Aerospace Institute

St. Louis Aerospace Institute Logo

St. Louis Community College, supported by industry and community partners, launched the St. Louis Aerospace Institute. The institute addresses critical workforce preparation needs for the aerospace industry.

The institute offers courses in Aerospace Manufacturing and Aviation Maintenance. All are courses that meet the needs of the region’s aerospace companies.

The St. Louis Aerospace Institute partnership evolved from discussions over the need to expand the pipeline of entry-level technicians for the region’s aerospace companies and to increase the education and training capabilities of the college with certificate training programs that will lead to rewarding career pathways. STLCC has made a significant investment leveraging millions of dollars applied toward curriculum development, equipment, facilities and ongoing operations of the institute.

Aerospace manufacturing courses cover aerospace fundamentals, sheet metal assembly, mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, composite fabrication and composite assembly. Up to 29 credit hours can be earned in one semester in these fast-paced, accelerated courses.

The aviation maintenance courses are offered in cooperation with St. Louis Public Schools at Gateway STEM High School as part of their FAA certified Aviation Maintenance Technician Program. The courses prepare students for Federal Aviation Administration airframe and power plant tests. Fifty-four credit hours are earned over 19 months.

These career pathways may lead directly to employment for participants, but can also lead to further education and credentials including certificates and degrees at the community college level as well as articulation to four-year institutions.
