Forest Park Art Students In StL Open Studios Tour Sunday
June 20, 2013
St. Louis Community College-Forest Park art students and ceramics coordinator Matthew Isaacson will participate in Sunday’s Open Studios Tour in St. Louis, exhibiting their work and providing hands-on demonstrations in ceramics and printmaking.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Art Annex Gallery, located at 5435 Highland Park, southeast of the Forest Park campus. The event is free and open to the public.
More than 170 artists will be involved in the Open Studios Tour St. Louis, sponsored by the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, this weekend, June 22-23. Guided tours and artist-organized events will take place throughout the weekend.
Isaacson, an assistant professor who specializes in ceramics, said artwork will be for sale and refreshments will be served.
Students include J’Ann Allen, who will display printmaking and mixed media; Barbara Zucker, who will have examples of her printmaking; and Mary Mosblech, who will demonstrate printmaking using press and silk screens. She specializes in working with layers of plates/silkscreens on paper – some with hand painting.
“The French saying, ‘Ah, que la vie est quotidienne.’ (Oh, how daily life is) seems like both celebration and lament. My art, too, depicts the small daily joys and sorrows, the triumphs and sadnesses. My work features primarily figures and fragments of nature to convey the relentless dailiness,” said Sally Beck, who specializes in printmaking.
“I will display and have for sale examples of printmaking including polymer lithography, woodblock relief, reduction woodblock relief, solar plate, linocut, monotype and silk screen,” said printmaker Joanne Stremsterfer.
