NEW! The Women's Rights Movement in America

For centuries, American women, often supported and aided by men, have fought to win social, legal, economic, and even domestic equality. Though the course will focus on key gains made in the 20th century, it will reference important developments in the broader history of the struggle for women’s equality. Join us for a look at the battles our fore-mothers fought to advance our standing in American society and those that our daughters will still have to fight.

NEW! The LGBTQIA+ Rights Movement in America

The year 2019 marked the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, the LGBTQIA+ community’s equivalent to the storming of the Bastille. In both cases, the landmark event was not simply a spontaneous eruption of action to advance a cause, but the result of a myriad of complex factors that were rooted in decades of collective grievances. This course examines the history of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, plus- movement to attain legal and social equality in America, from the earliest efforts to organize through the Supreme Court’s landmark 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision which made marriage equality the law of the land. Questions, anecdotes and memories are encouraged in this important discussion.
