Aid is based on need, calculated as the cost of college minus your family’s contribution. To estimate what you can pay, fill out the FAFSA. The government uses this to determine your expected contribution. Other factors, such as available funds and your credit hours, also affect aid.
STLCC’s FAFSA school code is 002469. Students must only use this school code: St. Louis Community College - 002469, not the specific campus school codes that are also listed on the FAFSA application. If you included the specific campus code, you will need to correct your application.
Each semester at STLCC, your financial aid is given as a refund during the fifth week after confirming your class attendance. After completing your FAFSA, submitting documents and registering, you'll receive an award notification. You can use your aid to cover tuition and if your Pell Grant or Direct Student Loan exceeds tuition costs, you may qualify for up to $600 for books at campus bookstores.
To keep receiving aid, you need to show you're progressing toward your degree and preparing for the workforce.
Follow these three simple guidelines to demonstrate Satisfactory Academic Progress:
- Maintain a GPA of at least 2.0
- Complete 66.67% of all credit hours attempted (cumulative)
- Finish your program within 150% of the required credit hours
If you don’t meet these guidelines, you can still regain your aid.
Student loans can make college possible, and federal loans are a good option. They have lower interest rates, don't usually require a credit check or co-signer, and you don't start repaying them until after graduation or if you drop below half-time. Some public sector jobs even offer loan forgiveness. Keep in mind, every dollar you borrow must be repaid, plus interest after college.
