Theatre Gallery
The Theatre Gallery is an exhibition space located in the lobby of the Terry M. Fischer Theatre. The high ceilings in this space give opportunity to display large two- and three-dimensional work not possible in the other spaces. These exhibitions are mainly viewed before and after events in the theater. This gallery also serves as an instructional space for students enrolled in Art Department programs to learn how to install, prepare and promote their work in exhibition.
Rachel Kalman
Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg and Archduke Franz Ferdinand, 2019
Oil on canvas
30 x 26 in.
Artist Bio:
Rachel Kalman’s paintings are full of notions of representation. She is fascinated by the impossible tasks we ask of inanimate, decorative objects and works to generate still lifes that subvert their own historical, moralistic authority; confounding the relationship between kitsch and art, banality and power. Originally from Canyon, CA, Rachel graduated with her MFA from Washington University in St. Louis and currently paints and teaches in the St. Louis area.
