STLCC-Meramec Hosts Constitution Day Birthday Bash

St. Louis Community College-Meramec will host a Constitution Day Birthday Bash Sept. 17-18.

Presented by the campus chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and the Service Works Club, the event gives students and members of the greater community the opportunity to hear speakers present on a variety of relevant topics along with many other activities.

“This non-partisan event is to educate and inform students of the importance of their vote in our democracy,” said Debbie Corson, coordinator of service learning and civic engagement and the organizer of this year’s event.

But the event is more than educational; it also encourages action. Attendees will be able to register to vote onsite, as well as write postcards to elected officials about issues that are important to them.

Speakers and their topics include:

  • "Why Voting Matters to Young People," Sept. 17, 11-11:50 a.m.
Nancy Price, League of Women Voters
  • "Running for Political Office and Serving the People," Sept. 18, 12:30-1 p.m.
    Deb Lavender, Missouri State Representative
  • "The History of Voting Rights," Sept. 18, 1:05-1:45 p.m.
Sue Williams, League of Women Voters

Other activities include an “I am a Voter” selfie booth, a quiz to help identify which founding father you are, music from Hamilton and birthday-appropriate refreshments.

All events will be held in the Business Administration building, Room 105.
