Wildwood Professor to Present to 1904 World's Fair Society

Kim Granger will present "Math at the Fair" to the 1904 World's Fair Society on Sept. 11.

Kim Tsai Granger, Ed.D., professor of mathematics at St. Louis Community College at Wildwood, has been invited to present to the 1904 World's Fair Society on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the University City Library, 6701 Delmar Ave.

A dedicated World’s Fair fan, Granger’s presentation, “Math at the Fair," blends interactive mathematical concepts with various factoids from the fair.

In one part of her presentation, she plans to count from one to 20 while sharing new facts about the fair that connect back to each number. Her goal is to provide each guest with at least one new piece of information.

“While we’ve all been in awe of the impressive numbers of the 1904 World’s Fair, this presentation focuses on calculations that will help people experience the fair from a new perspective,” she said. “From basic facts like how many dollars it cost to visit a particular attraction to the value of the fair entrance price in the day, guests are sure to find some of the calculations intriguing.”

This presentation is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring a cell phone or tablet so they can test their knowledge of various numerical fair facts.
