Media Invited to Florissant Valley's "Meet the Campus Day"

Youngsters help cut the ribbon at the new Emerson STEM Academy.

St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley is inviting reporters and journalists from local news outlets to “Meet the Campus Day” Oct. 2.

During the event, reporters will meet Dr. Elizabeth Gassel Perkins, campus president and chief academic officer, tour the campus — and most importantly — get the scoop on stories that are just waiting to be told about STLCC-Florissant Valley’s faculty, staff, students and events.

The tour will include the Emerson STEM Academy, which houses tutoring services for students as well as a computer lab and quiet place for studying. The space was dedicated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony in August.

Renovations are scheduled to be completed on the area this month. Technology and furniture also are slated to arrive by this time. A $1 million grant from Emerson made the dedicated space and enrichment programs it offers possible.

This rain-or-shine event begins at 9 a.m. in Training Center 105-107 on campus. The day includes lunch and will conclude with an opportunity to cover the Career and Networking Fair being hosted simultaneously by STLCC’s Career and Employment Services office. The fair is from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and will be held in the Student Center Multipurpose Room.

“Meet the Campus Day” has an open style, so guests are welcome to stay the day or simply audit parts of the day.

Contact Shantana Stewart, marketing and communications coordinator, at 314-513-4411 or sstewart164@stlcc.edu, to RSVP your attendance, make arrangements to audit part of the day and/or share dietary restrictions. The deadline to RSVP is Sept. 6.

Note: This is a walking tour, so be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
