Weber Scholarship Fund Reception, Art Auction and Lecture Planned

For nearly 30 years, Mark Weber has helped create an environment at St. Louis Community College that embraces and appreciates the arts.

In recognition of his contributions as a professor of art, the St. Louis Community College Foundation is seeking donations to establish the Mark Weber Scholarship Fund. Once funded, this scholarship will support students enrolled in art courses at the college.

“I’m proud to have spent my career teaching art to students at STLCC,” Weber said. “I believe in the power of a community college education, and I’m excited to create this scholarship to help students achieve their artistic and educational goals.”

Fundraising efforts for the scholarship fund will commence with a public reception and art auction featuring Weber’s work, Thursday, April 4 from 7-9 p.m. at St. Louis Community College-Wildwood, 2645 Generations Drive, Wildwood, Missouri, 63040. During the reception, 14 of Weber’s original works will be sold at auction.

Tickets for the April 4 reception are on sale now. The cost is $25 per person and includes refreshments, the art auction and a lecture given by Weber about his work and his career.

Guests who are unable to attend the reception are invited to visit the Wildwood campus April 1-5 to view his work and make an online donation.

“Mark Weber has had a profound impact on the college and the community as both an artist and a professor,” said Steven G. Collins, Ph.D., interim president at STLCC-Wildwood. “We look forward to honoring his legacy with a scholarship as well as providing the public with a unique opportunity to own an original piece of his artwork.”

About the Art Auction
The art auction will include 14 paintings from Weber’s “Recent Works” collection. The paintings will be sold during an auction at the April 4 reception. Each painting will be sold to the highest bidder in exchange for his or her donation to the St. Louis Community College Foundation. All proceeds raised during the art auction are tax deductible. The paintings, which are valued between $200 and $2,000 each, use oil, acrylic and enamel on paper or canvas.

“Every day we are presented with images that relate to us on a personal or universal level,” Weber said. “My artwork aims to encourage spiritual and hopeful thoughts about the journeys each of us are involved in, rather than offer answers or narratives.”

About Weber’s Career
Mark Weber began his career at STLCC in 1988 as an adjunct faculty member. In 1995, he was hired full time at Forest Park. In 2008, he was tapped to build the fine arts program at the Wildwood campus.

During his tenure, he helped create an environment that embraces and appreciates art. From curating the outdoor sculpture park to managing the indoor art collection, serving as the faculty mentor for the Fine Arts Club, and hosting numerous student art exhibits, his impact on the campus community has been profound.

Weber spearheaded numerous fine arts initiatives over the years. He also worked to infuse cultural opportunities into the student experience through his role as the global education coordinator. His involvement with these initiatives has enabled dozens of students to gain unique cultural experiences – both on campus and around the world.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a master’s degree in fine arts from Washington University in St. Louis. Throughout his career, he has participated in nearly two dozen solo art exhibitions and more than 50 group exhibitions. His artwork has been displayed in numerous public and private collections, including the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, Ralston Purina, and Hunan Normal University in Changsha, China.
