Accelerated Job Training
Offered through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
@ Florissant Valley | Corporate College | BRDG Park
This lab assistant program prepares you for entry-level positions in life science research, development and production. In addition, this two-semester program acts as a bridge into the College’s AAS Biotechnology program and other STEM programs. The lab assistant certification includes courses in life science and biotechnology delivered in a learning community setting. A learning community consists of a group of students in the program, instructors and tutors that work together toward successful completion of the program.
The recommended academic plan blends general education requirements with options for areas of concentration to ensure students get the most out of their certificate or degree.

Students regularly interact with industry leaders, as the BRDG Park bio-incubator houses a dozen exciting start-up companies — top innovators in the field. In addition, as part of the technical skills assessment panel, students present on a technique they have mastered through the program, showcasing their skills to a panel of bioscience industry professionals.
Learn from award-winning professionals recently recognized by the Community College Futures Assembly Bellwether Awards program, as well as winners of industry fellowships like the Advanced Technological Education’s Bioscience Industrial Fellowship Project (BIFP). Leaders in the field of STEM education, STLCC faculty members are committed to their students and offer one-on-one coaching, extended office hours and opportunities for extra lab practice.
Students practice lab techniques on the latest, state-of-the-art equipment covering a variety of bioscience niches. Students will also design an experiment including all steps — proposal, data collection, data analysis and communication of results — then present their findings in class.
The Life Science Lab Assistant program is designed to help make sure graduates are prepared for the workplace. Support is provided for students throughout the job application process, from help with cover letters and interview skills, to an evaluation of local market considerations.
