Construction Set to Begin on New STLCC Athletic Complex

St. Louis Community College is beginning construction on $18 million in athletics renovations, including a state-of-the-art athletic complex at its Meramec campus and updates to the Forest Park gymnasium, marking an exciting new chapter for Archers Athletics.

"Athletics is an important part of the collegiate experience and for many students, it provides a way to help them achieve their academic goals," said Jeff L. Pittman, PhD, STLCC chancellor. "We’re extremely proud of the new buildings and renovations on our campuses and the improvements to our athletic facilities are another way STLCC is investing in our students as well as our community."

The STLCC-Meramec complex will include new athletic fields for softball, baseball and soccer, along with a concession stand, seating, dugouts, scoreboards and turf surfaces. Interior improvements include updated locker rooms and renovated athletics offices that will create a dedicated recruitment space.

“We are excited to see this project move from the planning stage to reality after more than two years of preparation,” said Sharon Marquardt, STLCC districtwide director of athletics. “This new complex and the interior renovations are an investment in our student-athletes and their experience at STLCC, providing modern spaces where they can train and build connections with their teammates. It will be especially rewarding to watch them compete on these new fields and create memories that will last a lifetime." 

Additional athletics improvements are planned for STLCC-Forest Park, including a remodeled training room, snack stand and a new court that will accommodate Archers basketball and volleyball.

“Having state-of-the-art facilities on our campuses will be a gamechanger for Archers Athletics,” said Keith Ware, EdD, STLCC vice president of student engagement and chief student affairs officer. “Prospective student-athletes want to see that their institution is committed to their success, and these new facilities send exactly that message. We are building something our current athletes can be proud of, and that will help us attract the next generation of Archers for years to come.”

“This project represents so much more than new athletic fields,” said Feleccia Moore-Davis, PhD, campus president, STLCC-Meramec. “It's about providing STLCC-Meramec students with a complete college experience. We’re creating a true home for our student-athletes, while giving all of our students more opportunities to support their classmates, attend games and connect with one another.” 

FGMA designed the athletics project, and S.M. Wilson & Co will continue in its role as construction manager after seeing the two new Meramec buildings through to completion. Byrne & Jones will serve as general contractor. Construction trailers are expected to arrive at Meramec on Thursday, Sept. 3, with the project expected to continue through spring 2027.

During construction, Archers men’s and women’s soccer will practice and play at STLCC-Florissant Valley. Baseball and softball will practice at off-site locations, with all fall scrimmages scheduled as away games. Volleyball will remain in the Meramec gym, where the team will be joined by men’s and women’s basketball teams.
