Milestone Makes Pittman the Longest Serving Chancellor in STLCC History
At the Exceptional Employee Celebrations in May, St. Louis Community College celebrated faculty and staff who had reached significant milestones during their time with the College.
One of the employees celebrating a milestone was Chancellor Jeff L. Pittman, PhD. Pittman marked 11 years with STLCC, making him the longest-serving chancellor in the College’s history. The average tenure for a college president or chancellor, according to the American Council on Education, is about 6 years.
Now in his 12th year, Pittman began his role as chancellor in July 2015. Since then, he has helped guide the multi-campus college system that serves students at four campuses and two education centers, as well as remotely through its online programs. Under Pittman’s leadership, the College has focused on student success, workforce training and helping the region grow.
“The College’s achievements from the last 10 years would not have been possible without our faculty and staff’s focused dedication to our students,” Pittman said. “Our Board of Trustees has been very clear about our direction – students first. And I am grateful for our community partners who have been true collaborators on so many of our projects. This has been a true team effort.”
Some of the College’s more notable accomplishments during Pittman’s tenure include:
- Passage of Proposition R: Voters in St. Louis City and St. Louis County approved the eight-cent tax levy in 2021, giving STLCC the support needed to launch its Transformed project. The College invested $450 million to build six new buildings, modernize facilities, improve programs and better meet workforce needs in the St. Louis region.
- Record number of graduates: In 2026, STLCC celebrated the largest graduating class in its 64-year history, with 2,779 students receiving degrees or certificates.
- Increase in enrollment: For the past three years, STLCC has seen a 20.5% increase in number of students enrolling on campuses and online.
- Workforce Learning Connection: Set to roll out fall 2026, this initiative will provide career exploration and work-based learning programs for students in grades 6-12.
- Guided Pathways: The College has undertaken a comprehensive plan to develop six clear pathways or schools that align graduates directly with high-wage careers and/or transfer to a university of their choice.
- STLCC Online: Based on student demand, the College has established a vast online learning platform that has become the largest campus in the district, serving over 5,000 students in the fall 2026 semester.
Pittman is also looking ahead. The College is finalizing plans for one of its most ambitious initiatives, the STLCC Promise Program. This effort will provide funds for tuition and support services for students living in St. Louis City and North St. Louis County.
And with the Board of Trustees extending his contract through 2028, Pittman will now focus on leading the work of the College’s Higher Learning Commission reaccreditation process. The reaccreditation process thoroughly examines the College’s offerings and processes to help ensure it is operating in line with its mission: Empowering students. Expanding Minds. Changing Lives.
“My time at STLCC continues to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” Pittman said. “I have had the opportunity to work with amazing, student-centered colleagues and together we have created an environment that provides meaningful experiences for our students and employees.”
