St. Louis Community College announced today the appointment of Kate Herrell, EdD, as campus president of the STLCC–Wildwood campus, effective July 1, 2026. Dr. Herrell succeeds Steve White, EdD, who is retiring after years of dedicated service to the College and the Wildwood community.
Dr. Herrell assumes leadership of the Wildwood campus at a pivotal moment in its history. The campus has recently undergone significant expansion as part of STLCC Transformed, the College’s $450 million systemwide investment that brought the new Health Sciences and Technology Center to Wildwood and launched new and expanded programs to support workforce growth in high-demand fields.
“Dr. Herrell brings a strong record of academic leadership, student success and community engagement at a time when STLCC–Wildwood is poised for continued growth,” said Jeff L. Pittman, PhD, STLCC chancellor. “Her experience leading instructional innovation and building external partnerships aligns perfectly with the mission and momentum of this campus.”
Dr. Herrell most recently served as vice president of instruction and student services at Metropolitan Community College of Kansas City’s Longview campus, where she led campuswide strategic planning, instructional innovation and student success initiatives. Her leadership includes oversight of academic programs, workforce-aligned training, and student services, as well as successful grant acquisition, facility expansion, and community-based partnerships.

Dr. Herrell holds a Doctor of Education in Instructional Leadership and a Master of Arts in Education from Lindenwood University, a Master of Business Administration from Maryville University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Truman State University. Her interdisciplinary background in education, business, and academic administration positions her well to lead a campus at the intersection of higher education and workforce development.
With deep connections to West St. Louis County, Dr. Herrell said she is eager to build on the Wildwood campus’s growing role as a workforce and community partner.
“The Wildwood campus plays a critical role in preparing students for careers that directly support the economic vitality of our region,” Herrell said. “I look forward to working closely with faculty, staff, students, and area business and health care partners to ensure our programs meet workforce needs and that our graduates are job-ready and well-positioned for success.”
The STLCC–Wildwood campus serves thousands of students annually and is a key site for health sciences, applied technology, and career-focused programs designed to meet regional employer demand.
