St. Louis Community College celebrated the opening of its new Transportation Education Center at STLCC-Forest Park.

It marks the fourth of six new buildings to open in 2025 as part of the College’s STLCC Transformed initiative—a commitment to modernize campuses and programming throughout the district to better meet Missouri’s workforce needs.

“The Transportation Education Center represents our dedication to building a skilled workforce in the St. Louis region,” said Jeff L. Pittman, PhD, STLCC chancellor. “We’re preparing students for high-demand careers that are essential to keeping our economy running and our communities connected.”

The 79,000-square-foot center features state-of-the-art laboratories for the College’s transportation programs, including automotive technology, diesel technology, truck driving, and automotive vehicle inspection and light maintenance. The auto and diesel labs are equipped with industry-standard technology to prepare students for growing opportunities in these hands-on fields. The truck driving program offers real-world experience with a 193,000-square-foot driving lot located behind the building. The center also provide areas for our credit and short-term career training students to collaborate and work together seamlessly.

“The Transportation Education Center represents a new chapter for the College and our students,” said Julie Fickas, EdD, campus president and chief academic officer at STLCC-Forest Park. “By bringing programs that were once spread across the city into one centralized location, we are creating a more cohesive, collaborative learning environment with opportunities for students to learn from one another and grow together. This building will support every step of their journey, whether they’re earning a degree or gaining hands-on skills to quickly launch a career.”

In addition to the Transportation Education Center, STLCC opened the Health Sciences and Technology Center at the Wildwood campus as well as the Advanced Manufacturing Center and the Nursing and Health Sciences Center on the Florissant Valley campus earlier this year.

In the coming months, the College will open the Financial Services Education Center and Emerging Technology Center at the Meramec campus and complete major renovations to existing spaces throughout the district.

These new construction projects are supported by funds from Proposition R, an eight-cent tax levy approved by St. Louis City and County voters in 2021.
