Free ESL Classes at STLCC
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at St. Louis Community College help adult learners build English skills for daily life, work and community situations.
ESL classes are free and are not college-credit classes. They are for students with beginner to low-intermediate English skills. These classes can help you feel more comfortable speaking, listening, reading and writing in English.
If you already have intermediate or advanced English skills and want to prepare for college-level classes, English for Multilingual Learners (EML) may be a better fit.
To get started with ESL classes, register for ESL orientation. Walk-ins are not accepted, so please contact us before coming to ESL orientation.
What is the ESL Program at STLCC?
In ESL classes, students practice English they can use in everyday life. Lessons may include:
- Speaking and listening in common situations.
- Reading basic forms, letters and instructions.
- Writing simple sentences and short messages.
- Learning grammar and vocabulary.
- Practicing conversations for work, school and community life.
- Building confidence using English with other people.
Classes are taught by instructors who understand the needs of adult English learners. Students learn in a supportive environment and can build skills at a comfortable pace.
