Practical Nursing Program Requirements Checklist
Student must have successfully completed all requirements listed below prior to applying to the practical nursing (PN) program.
- Apply for admission to STLCC. Visit stlcc.edu/apply.
- Send transcripts
- Official College Transcripts: An official transcript from each college attended must be sent directly from the college attended to STLCC-Registrar’s Office, 5600 Oakland Avenue, St. Louis, 63110 or emailed to csr@stlcc.edu. Hand-carried or faxed transcripts will not be accepted.
- High School Transcripts or GED: Required only for students with fewer than 15 hours of college-level work or those who have satisfied the science requirements in high school. Current high school students must submit a final high school transcript before applying to the PN program.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Developmental courses, numbered below 100, completed at any institution will not
be counted toward the minimum cumulative GPA.
- The minimum 2.5 GPA must be maintained while on the Nursing Applicant List.
- A minimum GPA of 2.0 must be maintained once enrolled into the Nursing Program.
- STLCC students with at least 15 college-level credits with a 2.5 GPA will meet this requirement, regardless of the GPA at other colleges.
- College transfer students with fewer than 15 STLCC credits must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA in college-level credits earned at all colleges attended.
- Math Proficiency at or above MTH 140, MTH 160, MTH 161, MTH 170, MTH 185 or higher, or completion
of MTH 140S with a grade of “C” or higher.
- MTH 140S prerequisite: Reading Proficiency.
- MTH 140, MTH 160, MTH 161, MTH 170 and MTH 185 prerequisites: Satisfactory score on placement test and Reading Proficiency.
- Introductory Biology: BIO 111 or Fundamentals of Chemistry: CHM 101 completed with
a grade of “C” or higher.
- BIO 111 prerequisite: Reading Proficiency or concurrent enrollment in RDG 079.
- CHM 101 prerequisite: Completion of MTH 109 or higher with a minimum grade of “C” or placement into a higher math class and Reading Proficiency.
- One of the following science courses is required within five years: BIO 111, CHM 101, BIO 207 or BIO 208.
- Anatomy and Physiology I: BIO 207 completed with a grade of “C” or higher.
- BIO 207 prerequisite: BIO 111, BIO 140 or CHM 101 with a grade of “C” or higher, or course equivalency and Reading Proficiency.
- One of the following science courses is required within five years: BIO 111, CHM 101, BIO 207 or BIO 208.
- Anatomy and Physiology II: BIO 208 completed with a grade of “C” or higher.
- BIO 208 prerequisite: BIO 207 completed with a grade of “C” or higher and Reading Proficiency.
- One of the following science courses is required within five years: BIO 111, CHM 101, BIO 207 or BIO 208.
- General Psychology: PSY 200 completed with a grade of “C” or higher.
- PSY 200 prerequisite: Reading Proficiency or concurrent enrollment in RDG 079.
- Human Growth and Development: PSY 205 completed with a grade of “C” or higher.
- PSY 205 prerequisite: PSY 200 completed with a grade of “C” or higher and Reading Proficiency.
- Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam completed with a minimum composite score
of 58.7 within two calendar years, or 24 months, of application.
- Students must wait a minimum of four weeks, or 30 days, between TEAS exam attempts.
- Students may take the TEAS exam a maximum of three times in a 12-month period.
- The TEAS exam can be completed in an STLCC testing center.

- Complete a Standardized Testing Interview. After completing the TEAS exam, students are required to meet with a Nursing Retention Coach to discuss the results.
When the above criteria have been met, students must submit a signed Practical Nursing Program application. The application must be signed by both the student and Student Success Advisor.
Completed applications must be emailed to STLCC-LPN@stlcc.edu. Mailed or faxed applications will not be accepted or processed. All communication from the Nursing Division will be sent to STLCC student email addresses only. No communication will be mailed or faxed to students.
