Paramedic Technology Program Requirements Checklist
Student must have successfully completed all requirements listed below prior to applying to the paramedic technology program.
- Apply to STLCC as a degree-seeking student
- Send transcripts
- Official College Transcripts: An official transcript from each college attended must be sent directly from the college attended to STLCC-Registrar’s Office, 5600 Oakland Avenue, St. Louis, 63110 or email: csr@stlcc.edu. Hand carried or faxed transcripts will NOT be accepted.
- High School Transcripts or GED: Required only for students with fewer than 15 hours of college level work or those
who have satisfied the science requirements in high school. Current high school students
must submit a final high school transcript to the same address above before applying
to the paramedic technology program.
- Minimum Cumulative GPA: Students must have and maintain a GPA of 2.5 in order to be
placed and remain on the wait list. A 2.5 in high school or for 15 hours (minimum) of college work. Students with fewer than 15 hours of college credit must have both a 2.5 GPA in high
school and 2.5 GPA in college.
- GED Applicants: must have 15 hours of (100 level) college credits with a 2.5 GPA.
- STLCC students with at least 15 college level credits with a 2.5 GPA: will have met this requirement, regardless of the GPA at other colleges.
- College transfer students with fewer than 15 STLCC credits: must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA in college level credits earned at all colleges attended.
NOTE: Developmental courses (numbered below 100) will NOT be counted toward the 15 hours of college work and will NOT be included in the GPA for admission to the program.
- Reading: Complete ONE of the following to meet the reading prerequisite
- Composite ACT score of 18 or higher or SAT verbal score of 500 or higher
- Accuplacer (Next Gen) score of 250 or higher or Accuplacer (Classic) score of 77 or higher or Compass score of 82 or higher on the Reading Portion
- Completion of RDG 030 or ENG 070 with a “C” or higher
- Completion of a 3-credit hour course (100 level or higher) with a “C” or higher from a US accredited institution.
- Emergency Medical Technical Courses: Complete all courses below to meet this requirement
- EMT 119 Emergency Medical Technician Emergency Medical Skills
- EMT 123 Emergency Medical Technician Clinical I
- EMT 121 Emergency Care, Principles, and Techniques
- Biology: Students applying to the Associate of Applied Science program are required to have completed BIO 111 Introductory Biology I (MOTR BIOL 100L). BIO 111 is not required for the Certificate of Proficiency.
- Pre-Admission Test: A score of 75% or greater is required. You must present a valid State of Missouri EMT-B license to take the paramedic pre-test (EMT test covering current NREMT guidelines). - State of Missouri EMT-B License: current copy of active license
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card: current copy of active certification
- Two Letters of Recommendation: from an EMS supervisor, medical director, or emergency department physician, emergency department nurse, or an EMT instructor
- Documentation of Patient Care Experience: Verified documentation of either 100 EMS class or 100 hours of patient care experience involving assessment and treatment. Verification should be made on appropriate letterhead signed by the service provider supervisor and listing the beginning and ending (or through) dates. Means other than letterhead are per the program coordinator's discretion. This is separate from the letters of recommendation.

Note: BIO 207 is a degree requirement for the paramedic technology associate in applied science (AAS) program but not the certificate of proficiency (CP) program. If you wish to pursue your AAS as well, please be aware that BIO 207 has a prerequisite of either BIO 111, Bio 140 or CHM 101.
Please be aware that hospitals and facilities may mandate that a criminal background check and/or drug screening check (at the student's expense) be conducted prior to placement in a clinical or field setting. Students not passing these checks may be prohibited from participating in the clinical or field experience thus rendering the student ineligible to satisfactorily meet the course and program requirements.
