St. Louis Community College's automotive technology programs prepare you for a career in vehicle service and repair. You'll learn how cars work, how to diagnose problems and how to fix them. Choose from a certificate of proficiency (CP), certificate of specialization (CS) or associate in applied science (AAS) to match your goals and schedule.
You'll learn in the classroom and get hands-on practice in the shop, building skills across all eight Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) areas. You'll learn how to inspect vehicles, find the source of problems, work safely and use the tools and technology in today's repair shops.
Students of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels are welcome, from first-time learners to working technicians who want to grow in their career.
What is Automotive Technology at St. Louis Community College?
Automotive technology prepares you to work on today's vehicles by combining mechanical skills, electrical knowledge and problem-solving. You'll learn how vehicles operate, how to spot problems and how to make the repairs and perform the maintenance that keep drivers safe on the road.
STLCC's automotive technology programs provide training in all eight ASE areas:
- Engine repair.
- Automatic transmission/transaxle.
- Manual drive train and axles.
- Suspension and steering.
- Brakes.
- Electrical/electronic systems.
- Heating and air conditioning.
- Engine performance.
You can choose the credential that best fits your goals:
Associate in applied science (AAS): A two-year degree that combines automotive training with general education courses, giving you a broader foundation for your career.
Certificate of proficiency (CP): A focused program that builds the technical skills needed to begin working in the automotive service and repair industry.
Certificate of specialization (CS): A short program that introduces core automotive skills and prepares you for entry-level service and repair tasks.
