STLCC offers a free, short-term solar installer career training program to provide you with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed for this growing industry. If you're looking for a new career or just curious about green energy jobs, this program offers the perfect opportunity to get started. As part of the course, you'll prepare for the industry's most respected credential, the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Associate certification.
What is the Solar Installer Training Program at St. Louis Community College?
The solar installer training program teaches the essential skills to install, maintain and repair solar panels on both residential and commercial properties. Through hands-on instruction, you'll develop expertise in areas such as:
- Solar panel installation and safety
- Designing and integrating electrical systems
- Solar system maintenance and repairs
- Understanding permits, codes and regulations
- Educating customers on solar operation and efficiency
This free program is offered in partnership with the Saint Louis University Center for Environmental Education and Training and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It is designed to help eligible individuals launch their careers in solar energy.
What Can You Do as a Solar Installer?
By completing this program, you'll earn the following industry-recognized credentials, making you well-prepared for a successful career in solar energy:
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Construction Safety
- 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER)
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 7405 Fall Hazard Awareness
- NABCEP Solar Photovoltaic Associate
As the demand for renewable energy increases, you can expect many opportunities for growth and job security in this expanding industry. With experience, you can move into higher-level positions, such as solar project manager or system designer.

Requirements
To be considered for this opportunity, you must attend an information session, complete an interview and meet these prerequisites:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a current, valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Eligible for employment in the United States
- Pass a drug screening

Register at SLATE to complete the WorkKeys assessment and provide proof of passing scores on the Workplace Documents (5), Applied Mathematics (5) and Graphic Literacy (4) sections. WorkKeys is an assessment used by employers and job training programs to determine workplace readiness.
Note: Priority is given to residents of the Promise Zone with a valid driver's license.
