The St. Louis Community College Professional Truck Driving Training Program defines excellence, backed by the 60-year reputation of a top regional community college. The program’s all-inclusive and accelerated training is at the intersection of superior quality and a competitive price. CDL-A and CDL-B training for individuals or Customized Truck Driving Training for your employees.

Fueled by instructors with more than 50 years of combined experience, our program features a new training fleet of automatic transmission trucks and trailers, training equipment, and state-of-the-art simulators. 


STLCC’s Truck Driver Program delivers

  • Classroom and lab instruction emphasizing safety, DOT regulations, trip planning, pre-trip inspections and more
  • Several hours of mastering skilled backing maneuvers, as well as urban, rural and highway driving
  • Experience shifting gears on a simulator in a safe environment
  • A 4:1 student-teacher ratio
  • Highly respected training recognized by employers as thorough, individualized and effective preparation

This 160-hour program prepares students to enter the commercial driving industry as an over-the-road truck driver.
Class scholarships available through ARPA.*

CDL-A Class Schedule

Day class: 4 weeks | Mon.- Fri. | 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Evening class: 5 weeks | Mon.- Fri. | 4 -10  p.m. This is an accelerated training program.

Class Dates: (Day) Apr. 22-May 17 | (Eve) Apr. 1-May 13


CDL-A Program Cost

Tuition, DOT physical and medical exam covered through ARPA grant. CDL-A licensing is also included after a successful state test.


CDL-A Program Eligibility

The following items/steps/qualifications are required before the first day of class:

  • A valid driver's license
  • A recent copy of motor vehicle driving record for review (good driving record required)
  • A Commercial learner’s permit (Class A: general knowledge, air brakes and combination)
  • Participants must be 21 years of age or older with two years of driving experience
  • Upon enrollment, you will be sent for a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug test and DOT Physical. A negative DOT drug test and a successful DOT Physical are required to be eligible to drive a combination motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 26,000 lbs in class.
  • If English is not your first language, you must demonstrate a level of English language proficiency through STLCC's ESL Assessment.

This 56-hour program teaches students to drive smaller company trucks under 26,000 lbs. including dump trucks, garbage trucks and box trucks.

CDL-B Class Schedule

Day class: 7 days | Mon.- Fri. | 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Class start dates:  April 15, May 20 and June 17


CDL-B Program Cost

Day class: $3500

DOT physical & medical exam: $175


CDL-B Program Eligibility

  • Participants must be 18 years of age or older with two years of driving experience
  • Upon enrollment, you will be sent for a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug test and DOT Physical. A negative DOT drug test and a successful DOT Physical are required to be eligible to drive a combination motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 26,000 lbs in class.

This 72-hour program teaches students to drive smaller company trucks under 26,000 lbs. including dump trucks, garbage trucks and box trucks. Funded by ARPA.*

CDL-B with Hazmat Class Schedule

Day class: 9 days | Mon.- Fri. | 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Class start dates: April 15, May 20 and June 17 


CDL-B with Hazmat Program Cost

Program is fully funded by ARPA with no cost to students. Includes DOT physical and medical exam, TSA finger printing and TSA background screening.


CDL-B with Hazmat Program Eligibility

  • A valid driver's license
  • A recent copy of motor vehicle driving record for review (good driving record required)
  • A Commercial learner’s permit (Class B: general knowledge, air brakes and tanker)

80- or 120-hour training for CDL-A depending on the type of truck and trailer used. Our expandable CDL-B training is a 56-hour program that can include a Hazardous Materials endorsement along with a Hazmat Emergency Response Guidebook for a 72-hour training program.

  • Our extensive range training area or at your own site.
