About the Event

Explore careers in biotechnology during Biotechnology Day at STLCC’s Center for Plant and Life Sciences.

Students will participate in a micropipetting activity in the biotechnology lab and tour NewLeaf Symbiotics, a biological technology company located next to the Center for Plant and Life Sciences. The experience will introduce students to biotechnology and its applications in health care, agriculture, environmental science and biomanufacturing.

Explore careers in health care through activities and demonstrations in three STLCC health professions labs.

• Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Tour the MRI lab and try a hands-on activity using an MRI simulator.
• Clinical Laboratory Technology: Visit the lab and learn how laboratory professionals analyze specimens, use specialized equipment and help diagnose and monitor disease.
• Physical Therapist Assistant: Explore rehabilitation techniques used to help patients improve movement, manage pain and recover from injuries while learning more about the role physical therapist assistants play in patient care.

Manufacturing Day introduces students to skilled trades and advanced manufacturing programs offered at STLCC-Florissant Valley's Advanced Manufacturing Center.

Students will take part in activities and demonstrations in program shops and labs while learning about careers in manufacturing, skilled trades and engineering. Representatives from local employers will also be on-site to share information about their companies, talk about career opportunities and help lead activities.

About the Event

Baking and Pastry Arts Day gives high school students a close look at culinary and baking careers through activities in a college-level kitchen.

Students will practice savory and pastry techniques while preparing a variety of baked and prepared foods. Along the way, they will learn about food safety and sanitation, professionalism, communication and teamwork in a professional culinary setting.

Participants will also explore STLCC's baking and pastry arts and hospitality programs, including the College's renovated lab spaces and instructional technology.

About the Event

Graphic Design Day introduces students to the design process through a packaging project that combines creativity, technology and fabrication.

Students will take apart an existing package to study how it is built and how it communicates information. They will then create an original packaging concept and produce a laser-cut, foldable prototype using digital design tools.

Along the way, students will explore design thinking, problem-solving and the tools used in graphic design while experiencing STLCC's creative and fabrication facilities.

Careers That Care Day introduces students to helping professions through three breakout sessions focused on social work, behavioral health and music therapy.

• Social Work: Explore careers in human services and social work through an interactive scenario. Students will see how a case manager helps someone identify needs, connect with community resources and plan next steps related to housing, counseling, employment or recovery support.
• Behavioral Health Support: Learn how counselors, therapists and support specialists help people manage stress, build coping skills and improve daily life. Students will explore career pathways and learn about the education and skills needed to work in behavioral health.
• Music Therapy: Discover how music therapists use listening, creating and performing music to support mental health, emotional well-being and wellness. Students will learn how music can help people manage stress, express emotions and build coping skills.
