Professional Licensure Disclosures
Some St. Louis Community College programs prepare students for careers that may require
professional licensure or certification.
Licensure requirements vary by state and may change over time. This page helps students
see whether STLCC has determined if a program meets educational requirements for licensure
or certification in each state.
Student Responsibilities for Out-of-State Licensure
Students who plan to seek licensure or certification outside Missouri should contact
the licensing board in the state where they plan to work before enrolling or relocating.
Licensure boards make the final decision about whether a student is eligible for licensure
or certification. Requirements may include exams, background checks, applications,
fees, work experience, clinical hours, continuing education or other steps beyond
completing an STLCC program.
Moving to another state while enrolled in a licensure program may affect a student’s
ability to complete the program, meet licensure requirements or continue clinical,
practicum or fieldwork placements.
Students who plan to move outside Missouri should contact their program before relocating.
Students who plan to work outside the United States should contact the appropriate
licensing or certifying agency in the country where they plan to seek employment.
STLCC may not be able to determine whether a program meets requirements in every country
or jurisdiction.
How to Read These Disclosures
For this page, “state” may include the District of Columbia, U.S. territories and
other jurisdictions with separate licensure or certification requirements.
Each program includes one of three determinations:
- Meets educational requirements: The College has determined the program meets educational requirements in that state.
- Does not meet educational requirements: The College has determined the program does not meet educational requirements in
that state.
- Determination not made: The College has not determined whether the program meets educational requirements
in that state.
Accreditation and Licensure Are Different
Some STLCC programs are accredited by industry-specific accrediting bodies. Accreditation
may help prepare students for licensure or certification, but it does not guarantee
licensure.
Licensing boards and certifying agencies make final decisions about eligibility. Students
should review both program accreditation information and state licensure requirements.
