2020 Meramec Student Awards
The STLCC Meramec Student Awards recognizes students for their outstanding efforts in the areas of service & leadership, scholastic achievements, and academic excellence.
We will announce the winners in the areas of Academic Excellence on May 12 and Scholastics Achievements on May 19.
Service and Leadership Awards
Emerging Leader Award
Winner - Kinza Awais
The award recognizes a student who has demonstrated outstanding involvement and initiative, as well as potential for continued leadership at STLCC.
Ace of Initiative Award
Winner - Erin Corcoran
This year’s Ace of Initiative Award recognizes a Campus Life student employee who demonstrates great integrity and responsibility in the work that they do. This person exemplifies optimism and inspiration—a leader of great initiative.
Archer Impact Award
Winner - Jessica Smith
The award recognizes a student who, through sustained involvement and achievements, has made valuable contributions and a lasting impact on the STLCC campus and the surrounding community.
Pillar of STLCC Award
Winner - Remy Xa
The award is presented to students who demonstrate achievement that showcase the combined attributes of STLCC's core values of academic excellence, learning integrity, accountability, innovation, dignity and civility, and intercultural competence allowing them to be successful year-to-year. After their admission to STLCC, the recipient has pursued their educational goals each semester on their path to degree completion. The award highlights the ongoing persistence, drive and success of STLCC students.
Outstanding Supplemental Instruction Leader
Winner - Nikole Girven
The award recognizes the Supplemental Instruction Leader who goes above and beyond the expectations of the position. They are an excellent session leader, create interactive and effective session plans and is recognized as a role model for students.
Outstanding Peer Tutor of the Year
Winner - Melinda Mantler
The award recognizes the tutor who goes above and beyond the expectations of the position. They are an excellent tutor, contribute to the positive image of the Academic Support Center, and is recognized as a role model for students.
Montage Award
Winner - Ashley Biundo
The award recognizes the current editor-in-chief who exhibits exceptional leadership and journalistic skills.
Service Students of the Year

The award recognizes students who are involved in Service Works Club leadership and who conduct extensive volunteer service on campus and in the community.

The award recognizes a student who has demonstrated outstanding involvement and initiative, as well as potential for continued leadership at STLCC.
Student Governance Council

Student Governance Council serves as the voice of students to the administration. In 2019-2020, SGC members collaborated to introduce students to the new STLCC-Meramec campus president/chief academic officer and campus vice president and hosted the Alive! Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Fair. They have worked hard to provide outreach to students and serve as advocates.

The Student Activities Budget Committee has the responsibility of allocating student activity fees to student clubs and organizations for co-curricular programs and opportunities. The students led the way, asked outstanding questions, showed a commitment to continued improvement and took seriously their role as stewards of student activity fees.

The student officers demonstrate an exceptional atmosphere of teamwork, leadership ability, promotion of Honors in Action and other engagement in the Phi Theta Kappa Society, and enthusiasm for the PTK Society’s Hallmarks.
Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished Officer Award
Winner - Kristen McDonald
The award is bestowed upon the chapter officer who has had the most significant leadership role in planning and implementing Honors in Action and has positively influenced the chapter as a whole.
Phi Theta Kappa Member Award
Winner - Dominic Casola
The award is bestowed upon a PTK member who is instrumental in chapter development and in helping the chapter accomplish its 5-Star goals and projects beyond basic membership.
Archer Orientation Leaders

Orientation leaders are often a first point of peer contact for new students at STLCC. They work to provide students a sense of belonging, and an understanding of STLCC resources and services, and provide a warm welcome to all students. They are seen as leaders well beyond orientation and Welcome Weeks, and as students who are trusted in their leadership and guidance.

The award recognizes a student with distinctive skills and creativity in drawing and digital or fine art graphic illustration.
Outstanding Graphic Designer of the Year

The award recognizes a student who has demonstrated dynamic and consistent forward-thinking graphic design excellence.
Design and Tech Innovator of the Year
Winner - Robin Marquand
The award recognizes a student who innovates by developing compelling projects that are technically advanced.
Interior Design Emerging Designer
Winner - Savannah Sells
The award recognizes a first-year student in the Interior Design program who demonstrates a commitment to their interior design education through academic excellence and service. The student is highly motivated and displays an exemplary passion for design, is supportive and encouraging toward other students in the program, and their positive and supportive personality contributes to creating a studio environment that is welcoming and energized.
Interior Design Student of the Year
Winner - Elliott Beach
The award recognizes a student in the Interior Design program who portrays the skills and characteristics of an emerging design professional. The student demonstrates an outstanding commitment to their interior design education by creating projects that reflect innovation, creativity, and functionality in design. They create projects that are thoughtfully planned and demonstrate strong research skills focused on the impact of design, as well as displays a positive attitude through challenging situations and works collaboratively with students in the program to provide solutions to design challenges.

The award recognizes a student who has shown exceptional service to the department, and commitment, promise and talent to their art.

Photographic Excellence Award

The award was established to honor an individual who has shown outstanding perseverance and success in studies of the photographic medium at STLCC-Meramec.
Business and Social Science
Outstanding Social and Behavioral Science Student
Winner - Halie Carter
The award goes to a student with more than 30 total credit hours (at least nine of which are in social science) who has shown exceptional promise as a Social and Behavioral Science student.
Gerry Welch Prize in Economics

Meramec Business Division Scholarship

The award recognizes a student who has shown superior achievement in accounting, business and economics courses at STLCC-Meramec.

Superior Achievement in Criminal Justice

The award recognizes a student who demonstrates a strong academic knowledge of criminal justice and also adds to the success of the program through their presence in the classroom.
Nancy R. Simmons Superior Achievement in Legal Studies for the Paralegal

The award recognizes a student who demonstrates strong academic knowledge in legal studies for the paralegal and adds to the success of the program through their presence in the classroom.
Edwyn Hoffstetter Accounting Scholarship
Winner - Caitlin Cavanaugh
The award is given to a student who demonstrates a strong academic knowledge in accounting and who plans to major in accounting at a four-year university.
Chris Beckerle Fontaine Memorial Accounting Scholarship

The award is given to a full-time student who demonstrates a strong academic knowledge in accounting.
Superior Achievement in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
Winner - Sara Mackey
The award is given to an accounting student who demonstrates outstanding leadership and academic success in the Spring 2020 Meramec Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
Information Technology Award
Winner - Katherine Spies
The award is given to a student who has maintained a high GPA and who has demonstrated both creativity and skill in coding software.

Commitment to Excellence in Nursing Education

The award recognizes students who are involved in the student nurse association, the peer tutoring program, and who go the extra mile to assist staff and other students to foster excellence in nursing education.

Honors Scholar Graduates are students who have demonstrated academic success at STLCC-Meramec and have completed 15 hours of honors coursework while maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Early College Graduates
Winners - Angel Nguyen & Natalie Grossenheider
The award recognizes the first Early College Academy graduates through STLCC-Meramec. The students began in fall 2018 with our partnership with Webster Groves High School. They will graduate in May 2020 with both their high school diploma and associate of arts degree in general transfer studies.
Emerging Scholar Award
Winner - Amy Solorzano-Shaw
The recipient of this award is a student who has demonstrated academic success at STLCC-Meramec. The student completed more than 24 credit hours, maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher and has chosen to be honored by a selection committee.
President’s Merit Award
Winner - Rebecca Hankins
Rebecca has excelled in the areas of Leadership, Campus Activities, and Community Service and is quite deserving of the honor
For the past year Rebecca has served as the Meramec Botanical Society club president. Rebecca’s strong communication and organizational skills, as well as her passions for outreach and horticulture, allowed her to form a student leadership team that provided many educational and networking opportunities for student members of the club.
Rebecca rallied students to donate over 130 hours of their time to support production of the student plant sale (which was unable to take place due to COVID-19 restrictions).
In December of 2018 Rebecca received the Gateway Professional Horticulture Association’s 2019
Professional Horticulturist Student Award and Scholarship. The award is granted to a student
that displays a desire to get involved in green industry organizations while excelling in the classroom and serving as a student leader.
In January of 2020 Rebecca was awarded the Missouri Green Industry Association’s annual scholarship for student achievement by exhibiting a committed commitment to career goals and pursuing professional employment in the green industry upon graduation.
Rebecca and the Botanical Society were awarded “Club of the Year” by the STLCC Student Life department.
