Start a Club

Make the most of your STLCC experience by starting a student organization! Leading a club develops valuable professional and leadership skills while letting you pursue your interests alongside like-minded students. The campus life office supports your success by providing resources for event planning, funding and marketing to help your club thrive.

Types of Student Groups

Student groups at STLCC fall into three categories: student clubs, student organizations and student special interest groups.

  • Student club: Local to STLCC, with a constitution and bylaws specific to the college. Active clubs can request funding from the Student Activities Budget Committee (SABC), host campus programming and use college facilities.
  • Student organization: Affiliated with STLCC and a regional, national or international organization, with bylaws connected to both. Active organizations can request SABC funding, host programming and use college facilities.
  • Student special interest group: Local to STLCC, recognized by the campus life office. Unlike clubs and organizations, they are exempt from annual requirements and do not seek SABC funding. They may partner with other groups, hold meetings and reserve campus spaces.

More information about the policies and requirements for each type of student group can be found in the Active Student Clubs and Organizations Handbook (PDF).

How to Start a Club

Get your student organization up and running with these steps:

  1. Create a clear mission statement that outlines your club's goals and purpose.
  2. Develop a club constitution including membership requirements, leadership roles and operating procedures.
  3. Establish a recruitment plan and identify potential student leaders for officer positions.
  4. Designate a faculty or staff member as your club advisor.
