As she prepared to walk across the stage as a St. Louis Community College graduate, Abigail Bohlmann helped shape the culture of creativity, leadership and community at STLCC-Meramec.
Whether she was mentoring first-year students in a design studio, organizing campus events, leading student government meetings or creating detailed interior renderings late into the evening, Bohlmann became known as someone who leaves every space better than she found it.
This spring, Bohlmann graduates from STLCC-Meramec as one of the interior design program’s most accomplished students, earning praise not only for her artistic and technical talent, but also for the compassion and encouragement she brings to campus life.
“Abigail is a hardworking student who stands out for her leadership abilities,” said Erin LeClerc, professor of interior design at STLCC-Meramec.
Leading Across Campus
Bohlmann’s leadership resume spans nearly every corner of campus. She served as president of the Student Government Executive Board, representing the student body and advocating for student interests across the College community.
She also served as co-president of the Interior Designers of Meramec student club, where she collaborated with classmates to organize activities and events that connect students with professionals and experiences beyond the classroom.
In addition, she contributed to campus life as vice president of the Campus Activities Board, helping create inclusive programs and events that encouraged students to feel connected and engaged.
But while her list of leadership roles is extensive, those who know Bohlmann say what truly sets her apart is the way she approaches each responsibility. Her positivity, empathy and genuine desire to help others succeed are what many know about her most.
“She is known within our program for her positive attitude and for consistently fostering an encouraging and supportive environment among her fellow students,” LeClerc said.
Designing With Creativity and Purpose
That spirit is especially visible inside the interior design studios, where Bohlmann has distinguished herself creatively and academically.
Her design projects are recognized for their originality and sophisticated presentation style, particularly her advanced 3D rendering work. LeClerc described Bohlmann’s renderings as realistic, immersive and highly effective at communicating both creativity and design intent.
Faculty members say her patience and willingness to help others have made a lasting impact on the program.

Creating a Welcoming Studio Community
That commitment to community earned Bohlmann the 2026 Interior Design Studio Impact Award, which recognizes a student who helps cultivate a welcoming and collaborative studio environment grounded in encouragement, respect and integrity.
During the nomination process, instructors praised not only her leadership, but also the kindness and compassion she consistently demonstrates toward her peers.
“Abby is an important part of our program and campus community,” instructors wrote in their nomination materials. “She serves as co-president of the Interior Design Student Club and president of the Student Government Executive Board. She always strives to ensure every student feels welcome and included by fostering an encouraging, supportive environment for those around her.”
Faculty members also highlighted her work as an embedded tutor in ART 150, where she became a trusted mentor for first-year students adjusting to the demands of college-level design work.
“She leads with compassion, and her integrity and supportive nature make her a highly respected member of our program,” instructors wrote.
Preparing for Her Next Chapter
Along with the Interior Design Studio Impact Award, Bohlmann also received the 2026 Greater St. Louis Artists Merit Scholarship, which recognizes artistic promise and achievement.
As she prepares for her next chapter at the University of Missouri this fall, Bohlmann already has ambitious goals for the future. She plans to pursue degrees in architectural studies, eventually earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees before entering the design and architecture field professionally.
One day, she hopes to return to higher education as an interior design professor, mentoring future generations of students the same way her instructors and peers have supported her.
For the STLCC-Meramec community, Bohlmann’s legacy is already clear. Through leadership, creativity and a deep commitment to lifting others up, she has helped create a studio and campus culture where students feel welcomed, encouraged and inspired to succeed.
And for many of the classmates she guided along the way, that impact may be the most lasting design she leaves behind.
