Surgical Technology Program Requirements Checklist

Admission to St. Louis Community College does not guarantee admission to the Surgical Technology program. Below is a pre-entry checklist.

The Surgical Technology Associate in Applied Science degree requires 63 total approved credit hours. Students interested in this selective admissions program should meet with a Student Success Advisor before applying.

General Pre-Entry Requirements

  1. Apply to STLCC
  2. Degree-seeking status and official transcripts
    • An official transcript from each college attended must be sent directly from the college attended to the STLCC Registrar’s Office and fully evaluated.
  3. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
    • Developmental courses numbered below 100 completed at any institution will not be counted toward the minimum cumulative GPA.
    • The minimum 2.5 GPA must be maintained while on the Surgical Technology applicant list.
    • A minimum GPA of 2.0 must be maintained once enrolled in the Surgical Technology program.
    • STLCC students with at least 15 college-level credits and a 2.5 GPA will meet this requirement, regardless of GPA at other colleges.
    • College transfer students with fewer than 15 STLCC credits must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA in college-level credits earned at all colleges attended.
  4. Math: MTH 108 or higher
    • Complete MTH 108: Elementary Applied Math or higher with a grade of “C” or higher within five years of application to the program.
    • Prerequisite: Reading Proficiency
  5. Introductory Biology: BIO 111
    • Complete BIO 111: Introductory Biology with a grade of “C” or higher within five years of application to the program.
    • Prerequisite: Reading Proficiency or concurrent enrollment in RDG 079
    • BIO 111 is a prerequisite course to BIO 207 and BIO 203, which are requirements within the program.
    • If BIO 111 has expired and BIO 207 and/or BIO 203 have been completed within five years of application, either BIO 207 or BIO 203 can be used to satisfy this requirement.

Application Requirements

The following courses are required to apply to the Surgical Technology program.

  • Math: Completion of MTH 108: Elementary Applied Math or higher with a grade of “C” or higher. Credit hours: 3-5
  • BIO 111: Completion of Introductory Biology with a grade of “C” or higher. Credit hours: 4

BIO 111 and math must be completed within five years of applying to the program.

Submit Your Surgical Technology Application

When the above criteria have been met, students must submit a signed Surgical Technology program application. The application must be signed by both the student and Student Success Advisor.

Completed applications must be emailed to stlcc-surgtech@stlcc.edu. Mailed or faxed applications will not be accepted or processed.

All communication from the Surgical Technology program will be sent to STLCC student email addresses only. No communication will be mailed or faxed to students.
