Artful Saturdays

Enjoy three Saturday mornings exploring museum collections. Led by art historian Betsy Solomon, experience a specific theme each weekend: April 25, Centuries of Sculpture, Saint Louis Art Museum; May 2, Laumeier Sculpture Park: Walking Tour of the Outdoor Collection; May 9, Iconic Images: Highlights from the American Galleries, Saint Louis Art Museum. Participants must provide their own transportation. Meet at Saint Louis Art Museum’s sculpture hall inside the main entrance to the Cass Gilbert (original) building April 25 and May 9. On May 2, meet at Laumeier Sculpture Park on the sidewalk outside Aronson Fine Arts Center Building.

Portrait Drawing: Beginning

Learn how to capture a likeness using proportion. Work with photos to discuss the anatomy of the skull and bony landmarks to set up a solid, believable head. Draw the head and face by tipping the head in various positions and drawing in perspective from above, below, profile view etc. It is strongly encouraged to take this class before attempting Intermediate/Advanced. Sketchbook: Doodling With a Purpose

Join us to experiment with your drawing techniques. This class focuses on making marks, drawing the same subject in varying ways, developing compositions and refining drawing styles. Travel Drawing

See St. Louis through the eyes of a traveler! Whether a longtime resident or a newcomer, this basic drawing class will explore elements of drawing such as sketching, figure gestures, perspective, landscape, value, and composition through on-site drawing experiences at locations around St. Louis City. Drawing materials range from pen, ink and watercolor to pencil. Students will learn through demos, hands-on experience, and feedback sessions. Lessons tailored to the level of students. Course emphasizes building a sense of community. By the end of class, students should have multiple skills they can use in their own travels in and outside of St. Louis. Pet Portraits: Acrylic

Celebrate your pet or the pet of someone else with a unique portrait painting. Makes a great gift. Learn techniques to achieve proper proportions, animal likeness and realistic textures (e.g. fur, feathers). The instructor will demonstrate how to paint fur (or feather) texture as well.
