Restore the Environment Through Remediation Training

This free, six-week training program prepares you for entry-level work in environmental cleanup and site restoration. Offered by St. Louis Community College through a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and in partnership with Saint Louis University, the program introduces you to careers focused on protecting people, communities and the environment.

You’ll learn about common cleanup work, safety rules and certifications used in environmental remediation. Training also covers how cleanup projects support public health and environmental recovery. This short-term program gives you a clear starting point for careers in environmental cleanup and restoration.

What is the Environmental Remediation Tech Program at St. Louis Community College? 

The environmental remediation technician program prepares you for entry-level work cleaning up hazardous sites and supporting environmental restoration projects. The program is designed to meet the needs of employers in the St. Louis region and focuses on the type of work commonly performed on active cleanup sites.

In this program, you will:

  • Learn how environmental cleanup and remediation work is done.
  • Train for entry-level hazard cleanup roles.
  • Follow safety standards used on active cleanup sites.
  • Prepare for required licensing and certifications.

Training also includes ecosystem restoration, helping you understand how cleanup work supports environmental recovery and long-term site safety. This program provides a strong starting point for careers in environmental remediation and the growing green jobs workforce.

What Can You Do as an Environmental Remediation Tech? 

As an environmental remediation technician, you can work in roles that focus on removing hazardous materials, restoring impacted areas and supporting safe reuse of sites. 

Common areas of work include:

  • Lead abatement.
  • Asbestos removal.
  • Hazardous materials handling.
  • Environmental and construction cleanup projects.

These roles support public health, environmental safety and site restoration across residential, commercial and industrial locations. Work may take place indoors or outdoors and often involves teamwork, safety procedures and hands-on activity.

Environmental Remediation Technician Short-Term Career Training

Requirements

The following requirements must be met for acceptance:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Have a current, valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Eligible for employment in the United States
  • Pass a drug test

Ideal candidates will have knowledge of, or experience in, construction to include rehabilitation work and do-it-yourself projects.
