Emerging Technology Center
The Emerging Technology Center will be home to new and reimagined programs and feature an inviting, accessible green roof. Other features include:
- Several new and reimagined programs, including cannabis and hemp production, graphic communication, and game design and development
- Expanded IT offerings, plus room to grow as new and emerging technologies evolve
- New home for the campus library and Academic Success and Tutoring, offering students easy access to academic resources
Project Updates
Stay in the know with the building's latest milestones as the construction phase progresses.
Green Roof and Power Prep
Oct. 2024—Electrical gear was installed in preparation for permanent power. Contractors continued installing brick, wrapping up on the south side in late October. They also worked on drywall throughout the building and began waterproofing the green roof toward the end of the month.
Ductwork and Framing
Sept. 2024—Brickwork was completed on the north side of the building and continued onto the west side and green roof. Contractors continued framing rooms throughout the building. They also installed ductwork and windows, piping for plumbing, and wires for electrical.
Windows and Brick Installation
Aug. 2024—Contractors continued with interior framing, ductwork, piping for plumbing, and pulling wires for electrical. They also started installing windows. Exterior brickwork kicked off in the second half of the month.
Interior Framing and Green Roof
July 2024—Contractors waterproofed the green roof and began installing the roof's railings. Other work included installing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems on each floor, laying out the walls for the second and third floors, and wrapping up the wall framing for the first floor.
Exterior Framing Progress
June 2024—In late June, contractors continued exterior framing on the building's north side, moving toward the east. The green roof is ready for its next steps and concrete was poured for the seating around the base of the monumental stairs. Installation of the first floor's plumbing pipes will kick off at the start of July.
Concrete Pour Wraps Up
June 2024—With the completion of the second floor and green roof, contractors wrapped up pouring concrete floors. They also worked on fireproofing the second floor and installing roof decking. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing subcontractors began initial installation of their respective systems.
Monumental Stairs Arrive
May 2024—In late May, the building's 20,000-pound monumental stairs (an eye-catching feature planned for the main lobby) were delivered as one piece and installed. They will be finished with wood later in the construction process.
Preparing for Concrete
May 2024—In early May, contractors began installing the main fire service and sanitation sewer for the Emerging Technology Center. They also continued shallow trench work—installing floor boxes and piping for electricity—in preparation for pouring the concrete floors.
Steel Superstructures Completed
April 2024—A milestone was hit in the second week of April as contractors finished installing the framework for the two buildings' superstructures. Afterward, they moved on to installing decking in preparation for concrete. Other progress included grouting columns, installing underground piping for water and convenience power, and plumbing work.
Beam Signing and Placement
March 2024—In late March, project partners, students, employees and even alumni added their signatures to a significant support beam before watching contractors ceremonially place it. It will be installed in its forever home in early April.
Steel Erection Progresses
March 2024—Steel erection quickly progressed throughout March as contractors completed three stories of framework for the northeast side of the Emerging Technology Center. Foundation work was also completed and perimeter insulation is in progress.
Steel Installation Begins
Feb. 2024—Contractors spent the first half of February prepping the construction site for the new buildings. Steel beams and a crane started arriving on Feb. 22, just in time to begin steel installation the last week of the month.
CN Door Completed
Jan. 2024—With nicer weather at the end of the month, contractors completed the new door, window and stucco work at the south entrance into Communications North.
Footing Installation Begins
Jan. 2024—Contractors installed lime to stabilize the soil. They also started to dig and pour footings for both new buildings as well as sleeves for utilities and underground piping.
Library Demo Continues
Dec. 2023—The new Science South ramp is scheduled to open mid-month. Library demolition will continue through late December.
CS Demo and BA Slab Removal
Nov. 2023—Demolition of Communications South and the bridge between the two communications buildings was completed. The library demo is halfway complete. Business Administration's slab removal also began to make way for the footings and foundations of the new buildings.
BA Demo Complete
Oct. 2023—Demolition on Business Administration was completed. Contractors closed off the bridge between the two communications buildings in preparation for its demolition following the demo of Communications South.
Demo Begins
Sept. 2023—The demolition phase began with removing the interior walls of Business Administration.
Groundbreaking
Sept. 2023—St. Louis Community College at Meramec broke ground on the Financial Services
Education Center and the Emerging Technology Center on Friday, Sept. 8.
Fencing Installed
Aug. 2023—Fencing was installed around Business Administration, Meramec Library and Communications South in preparation for the upcoming demolition.
