Funding Options

WIOA Program

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program helps you fund your education and training in fields where employers are actively hiring. When you qualify for WIOA funding, you can have your tuition costs covered for approved training programs that connect directly to job opportunities. You'll work with career advisors who provide personalized guidance, assess your skills and help you develop a realistic career plan. What makes WIOA especially valuable is how it links your training directly to actual job openings in your area, so you can be confident your new skills will lead to employment opportunities.

Benefits include:

  • Tuition assistance for approved programs
  • Career counseling and guidance
  • Job search support and placement assistance
  • Ongoing mentorship during training

Eligibility: Documentation of identity, work authorization and either income-based qualification or dislocated worker status required. Priority is given to veterans, low-income individuals and those with barriers to employment.

How to Apply: Create an account on the Missouri Job Center website and submit your application.

Contact: Lesley English-Abram at labram@stlcc.edu or 314-644-9308.

SkillUP Program

The SkillUP program helps Missouri residents who receive SNAP benefits (food assistance) get the training they need for better jobs. If you qualify, you'll work with your own career coach who will help you find training programs that match your interests and abilities.

Your coach will create a personalized plan just for you, focusing on skills that local employers are looking for right now. The program provides support every step of the way—from choosing the right training to finding job opportunities after you complete your program. The goal is to help you find stable employment that pays well enough that you may no longer need assistance.

Benefits include:

  • Career exploration and assessment
  • Training program selection and enrollment assistance
  • Financial support for training-related expenses
  • Job placement services and interview preparation
  • Post-employment support to ensure long-term success

Eligibility: Missouri residents currently receiving SNAP benefits.

How to Apply: Submit your SkillUP training application through our online database.
