Start Strong at STLCC

Would you like a small classroom feel, but with big ideas, collaboration, and support? Our Start Strong Cohorts provide a great way for students to complete college level requirements in their first semester.

How does Start Strong work?

Students who are accepted into a Start Strong cohort will take a full-time cluster of classes with their peers. Students in these cohorts will also see the benefit of shortening time to degree through this pilot program. Often, students who place into all three areas of developmental courses take anywhere from two to four semesters to complete English and math courses - why not do it in one?!

  • Start Strong cohorts shorten your time to earning your degree!
  • Complete your developmental English, math, and reading requirements and required, college-level English and math courses in just one semester.
  • You will have an advisor whose primary focus is on students in the Start Strong cohorts.
  • You will be automatically registered for the courses in your cohort.
  • Your spot in the classes you need will not be taken by another student!
  • Small class sizes.
  • Enhanced academic support.

  • Are you a new college student for fall 2021?
  • Was your high school GPA below 2.6? If so, you may be a stronger candidate for this program.
  • Do you want to start college strong?
  • Do you want more resources to be successful in your first term?
  • Do you want to take all courses in your preferred cohort?

St. Louis Community College will have seven Start Strong cohorts this fall on the Florissant Valley, Forest Park, and Meramec campuses. Our Wildwood campus is offering the virtual Start Strong cohort.

No. This schedule is pre-determined. Students must be eligible to enroll for all classes in their assigned cohort.

Students will be required to attend a virtual orientation on Monday, August 16 at 6 p.m in order to unlock the full benefits of this program.
