Program Pathways for High School Students at STLCC


EMBARK - Biotechnology Career Path

EMBARK is a special dual credit and dual enrollment program focused on preparing students to earn a Life Science Lab Assistant (LSLA) certificate with the goal to receive an internship and get firmly positioned on the path toward a career in bioscience. Participating students will enroll in required classes at an STLCC campus location ,STLCC-BRDG Park, or via dual credit at their high school (based on course availability) ,receive placement assistance into an internship, and dedicated support from our EMBARK Coordinator. Successful participants will graduate high school with a high school diploma and a Life Science Lab Assistant certificate. This lab assistant program prepares students for entry-level positions in life science research, development and production. In addition, the LSLA certificate acts as a bridge into the College’s AAS Biotechnology program and other STEM programs.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • HS juniors and seniors
  • Cumulative, unweighted GPA 2.6+
  • Placement in MTH 140s or higher
  • Interest in earning a Life Science Lab Assistant Certification
  • If a high school senior must have completed BIO 111 or AP Biology (Exam score of 3+)

Access Point- Technology Career Path

Access Point is a unique dual enrollment partnership between STLCC and Daugherty Access Point designed to help students from underrepresented communities transition from high school to software development careers in less than a year. Students take Java I and Java II during the second semester of senior year with additional coursework. Upon completion of the initial phase of tailored training, students will immediately start a paid apprenticeship that will lead to a full-time $40k+ salary and software engineering career while continuing their college education.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • HS seniors
  • Cumulative, unweighted GPA 2.0+
  • Demonstrate Reading Proficiency
  • Additional requirements designated by Access Point.
