STLCC Professor to be Honored by Metro Theater Company

Mariah Richardson

Mariah L. Richardson, assistant professor of mass communications at St. Louis Community College–Florissant Valley, has been selected as one of three honorees for Metro Theater Company’s 2026 Jubilee Gala. The annual event celebrates individuals whose work has made a lasting impact on theater for young audiences and arts education in the St. Louis region.

Richardson will receive the St. Louis Champion for Theater for Young Audiences honor in recognition of her decades-long contributions as a playwright, director and educator.

Her creative partnership with Metro Theater Company spans many years and reflects a shared commitment to high-quality theater for young audiences. Through this collaboration, Richardson has contributed two commissioned works: Delilah’s Wish (2009) and Bold, Brave, Curious! (2022).

A prolific artist, Richardson has written 15 plays and directed numerous stage and film projects throughout her career. In addition to her theatrical work, she has contributed as a staff writer and voice actor for Nine PBS’s animated children’s series Drawn In.

Prior to joining St. Louis Community College, she taught first-year acting at Webster University’s Sargent Conservatory of Theatre Arts. She has also produced eight episodes of the YouTube series Delilah Shares Our World, which introduces young viewers to global cultures and perspectives through engaging storytelling.

The Metro Theater Company will recognize Richardson during the gala on May 19 alongside two additional honorees whose work has advanced theater for young audiences.
