The Scene, the student newspaper at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park, won 23 awards in this year's Missouri College Media Association conference.

The Scene won the Sweepstakes Award for the most staff and individual awards, and third place for Best Overall Newspaper. The Scene competes against other community college newspapers in Division 4.

"I'm very proud of our staff," said Teri Maddox, the Scene’s faculty adviser. "They work hard to serve the Forest Park campus and keep its students and employees informed."

The annual MCMA conference was slated for April 4 at Southeast Missouri State University but was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Award winners were announced April 7 in a live-streamed video on the MCMA Facebook page.

"News of these awards was bittersweet," Maddox said. "Four of them were won by our former editor, Tim Bold, who died in February at age 49. He's still helping us be the best we can be."
