Marilyn Bush, president, Bank of America St. Louis, recently received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Missouri Community College Association.
Bush was one of four recipients of the award at the association’s Annual Convention and Trade Show on Nov. 30 in St. Louis.
Bush started her higher educational journey at St. Louis Community College. After completing her associate degree in business at STLCC in 1982, Bush went on to get a bachelor's degree in business and finance at Saint Louis University. She then landed a position at Bank of America, where she has worked ever since.
“My path to St. Louis Community College had a lot to do with quality and affordability because I was paying for it myself,” Bush said. “I particularly remember my calculus and statistics class at St. Louis Community College, because the instructor was able to teach the course in a way that students successfully learned the challenging curriculum and passed the course. The faculty and staff are knowledgeable, and for those who are working to put themselves through college, it's an affordable way to attain an education and graduate debt-free.”
As president, Bank of America St. Louis, Bush is responsible for connecting banking and investment resources offered through the eight lines of business to companies, families and individuals in St. Louis. She also leads the effort to use Bank of America resources to address social and economic concerns and build strong communities.
Bush is past treasurer and current president of the STLCC Foundation Board of Directors. Having served on the foundation board for six years, Bush’s tenure includes the successful completion of STLCC's Opportunity for All Capital Campaign. By the end of 2021, the comprehensive campaign had garnered support for scholarships, innovative programs, workforce development, capital projects and more.
Bush is a recognized brand ambassador and community leader in St. Louis and throughout the state of Missouri. Her efforts include addressing community priorities and fostering improved economic mobility.
She guides Bank of America's efforts to be a model corporate citizen, throughout its day-to-day business activities, employee volunteer programs and philanthropic support that make a positive impact in St. Louis.
Bush actively supports women and diversity in the workplace. Her civic leadership roles include serving on the Executive Committee and as past chair of The Hawthorn Foundation; past executive sponsor for St. Louis LEAD for Women; chair of the YWCA Women in the Workplace Leader Lunch; and chair of the United Way Women's Leadership Society.
