Florissant Valley Student Newspaper Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The Forum logoThe Forum, St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley’s student newspaper, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Founded in 1973, the paper has provided news, opinions, features, and entertainment to the campus and community for half a century.

Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the paper are invited to join the celebration Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. at 3400 Pershall Road in Ferguson in the Student Center, Room 223.

Vienna I. Austin, student editor, said she is proud to support the paper’s mission, which is to inform, educate and entertain STLCC-Florissant Valley’s campus.

Vienna I. Austin"Looking back on the hundreds of students who have filled the staff of The Forum in these past 50 years, the work they've done, and the work our current staff is doing to continue the legacy of this paper really reminds me of how vital a free, student-based press is to the life of a campus,” Austin said. “I can't wait to see where our efforts to revitalize The Forum takes us and where the paper is in another 50 years."

Mary Horner, faculty adviser, believes The Forum and journalism are important.

"We are proud to provide a source of information for the STLCC-Florissant Valley campus and an outlet for students to express their opinions and report on campus events. We look forward to the next 50 years of continuing that tradition," she said.
