Turn Your Eye for Design into a Career with an Interior Design Degree

The associate in applied science (AAS) in interior design at St. Louis Community College teaches you how to create spaces that are functional, sustainable and visually appealing. You’ll explore how color, lighting, materials and layout can make a room comfortable and improve how people live, work, and interact.

What is Interior Design at St. Louis Community College?

In this program, you’ll get experience designing interiors that are functional, beautiful and easy to use. You’ll explore how color, lighting, materials and space affect how people experience a room, from homes and offices to schools and public spaces. The program blends art, design principles and technology so you can create interiors that look great and work in real life.

Through studio projects and real-world challenges, you’ll build skills in drafting, 3D modeling, digital design software, lighting and building codes. You’ll also practice presenting your ideas, thinking critically about design problems and turning concepts into finished spaces.

What Can You Do with an Interior Design Associate Degree?

An associate degree in interior design from STLCC prepares you for hands-on, creative roles in the design world. You’ll gain the skills to help plan spaces, choose materials and develop design concepts for homes, offices, schools, hospitals, hotels and other interior environments.

With this foundation, graduates can assist interior designers and architects, work in furniture or materials showrooms or join construction and renovation projects. You’ll leave the program ready to contribute to real-world design projects or continue your education at a four-year university.

The interior design AAS program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

Professional Development

Courses leverage advanced software such as AutoCAD, REVIT, 20.20, Adobe Creative Suite and Google Sketchup.

Student groups also work closely with professional organizations, including American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA).
