What is the Truck Driver Program at St. Louis Community College?
STLCC’s truck driver training program is led by instructors with more than 50 years of combined industry experience. Students train using a modern fleet of automatic transmission trucks and trailers, along with industry-standard equipment and state-of-the-art driving simulators.
Students receive:
- Classroom and lab instruction focused on safety, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, trip planning and pre-trip inspections
- Extensive practice with backing maneuvers, as well as urban, rural, and highway driving
- Simulator-based training to practice shifting and driving skills in a controlled environment
- Personalized instruction supported by a low student-to-teacher ratio
- Training recognized by employers as thorough preparation for professional driving careers
This hands-on approach helps students build confidence and skills needed to succeed in commercial driving roles.

What Can You Do as a Truck Driver?
With truck driver certification, you are qualified to operate different types of trucks, such as semi-trailers, tankers and flatbeds. Beyond driving, the skills gained can lead to roles in fleet management, safety compliance and logistics coordination.
