This free, EPA grant-funded, six-week training, in partnership with Saint Louis University, offers hands-on experience in hazardous waste management. What is the Environmental Remediation Tech Program at St. Louis Community College?

Designed to meet the needs of employers in the St. Louis metropolitan area, the environmental remeditation technician program focuses on entry-level skills and prepares you for licensing and certification in Missouri and Illinois. You'll earn 20 valuable certifications, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER). The coursework culminates in a capstone class, offering hands-on experience at local remediation sites. Training in ecosystem restoration is also included, equipping you to enter the growing "green jobs" market.

What Can You Do as an Environmental Remediation Tech? 

As an environmental remediation technician, you can work in a variety of sectors, including:

  • Private consulting firms
  • The construction industry
  • Waste management

Your roles may include ensuring regulatory compliance, conducting site assessments, developing remediation plans and overseeing cleanups. Opportunities also exist in non-profits and advocacy groups, focusing on public education and environmental restoration.

Requirements

The following requirements must be met for acceptance:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Have a current, valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Eligible for employment in the United States
  • Pass a drug test

Ideal candidates will have knowledge of, or experience in, construction to include rehabilitation work and do-it-yourself projects.

Location: 5460 Highland Park building, STLCC-Forest Park. Park in Lot E, and then walk across the street to the Highland Park building. Sessions are held in the classroom near the front door.
