Canvas for Faculty

STLCC will transition all teaching and learning to the Canvas learning management system effective Summer 2022.  (Blackboard will not be available after May 31, 2022).

Access Canvas (Faculty and Staff)


Don’t get caught short! It is time to begin preparing for the transition to the Canvas learning management system. Here is what to do now:

  1. Request Canvas Course Development Shells for SUBJ/Courses where you have content in Blackboard.
  2. Export course content from Blackboard and import it to your Canvas Course Development Shells. (You can find a video tutorial and checklist in the Canvas Transition Team - to to the Q&A Channel and select the Video Tutorials and Files tabs at the top.)
  3. Move video files from Blackboard to Panopto.
  4. Review LMS I and LMS II training in Canvas. (Log in to Canvas and select the Online Training and Certification course).
  5. Begin to edit and/or review courses in your Canvas Development Shells that you expect to teach in summer and/or fall 2022. (Video tutorials are available in the Canvas Transition Team.)

For students who you've authorized an Incomplete grade, you must complete the following steps if you plan to use the LMS for the remainder of the student's requirements...

    1. Download student work from Blackboard
    2. Request an Incomplete Course Shell
    3. Export the Blackboard course and Import into Canvas
    4. Update the imported course in Canvas
    5. Notify Online Education that the course is ready for student enrollment - complete the Online Help Request form and select Incomplete Enrollments as the area of concern.
    6. Communicate with your student(s) to ensure they are prepared to complete the course work in Canvas and understand your expectations. 

Please keep in mind:

    • Access to Blackboard ends for faculty and students on May 31, 2022.
    • Classes should be exported/imported and ready in Canvas no later than May 30, 2022; Online Education will begin course enrollments for incompletes in Canvas on May 31, 2022. 
    • We recommend that students either complete their work by May 30, 2022 or stop work on May 30, 2022 in Blackboard and plan to resume work in Canvas on June 1, 2022.
