Start your career with St. Louis Community College's welding technician certificates. These programs provide you with the skills and hands-on experience needed to thrive in the welding industry. Students receive training in welding techniques, safety protocols and industry standards.

What is Welding Technology at St. Louis Community College?

The welding technology programs at STLCC give students a strong foundation in essential welding techniques. Students receive hands-on training in:

  • Oxy-acetylene welding
  • Brazing
  • Cutting
  • Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW)

STLCC offers two different types of credentials to suit your career goals:

  • Certificate of specialization (CS): an entry program that provides training in the basics of welding techniques
  • Certificate of proficiency (CP): a comprehensive program that covers various welding techniques, including gas-metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), gas-tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and large-diameter welding

Both programs include Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 and safety training to ensure students are ready for real-world work environments.

What Can You Do With a Welding Technology Certificate?

Welding technicians can work in a variety of industries including construction, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and shipbuilding. You can specialize in different welding techniques such as metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG) or shielded metal arc welding. 

As part of this program, you'll receive OSHA 10 certification, which includes training in essential workplace safety practices and is recognized by employers for meeting national safety standards.
