Prepare for a Career in Networking and IT Support
The Cisco Networking Academy certificate of specialization (CS) teaches the fundamentals of computer networking in a clear, hands-on way. Students learn about Cisco applications, networking tools, protocols and services while building real-world IT and security skills. The program helps students prepare for Cisco certification exams and builds a strong foundation for careers in networking and other technology fields.
What is the Cisco Networking Academy at St. Louis Community College?
The Cisco Networking Academy is a program that teaches students how computer networks work and how they are used in today’s workplaces. The program is part of a global education initiative created by Cisco Systems and focuses on building skills for careers in networking and information technology.
Students complete a series of courses that begin with networking basics and move into topics such as switching, routing, wireless networks, security and automation. Courses use interactive tools and applied activities to help students understand key concepts and build practical skills.
The program prepares students for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA®) certification exam. The curriculum also aligns with CompTIA A+ and Security+ standards, giving students a strong foundation for entry-level IT roles and future certifications.
What Can You Do with a Cisco Networking Academy Certificate?
A Cisco Networking Academy certificate can help you begin a career in information technology. Many graduates start in entry-level roles such as network technician, help desk technician or IT support specialist. In these roles, you may help set up networks, solve technical issues and support users in everyday work environments.
With experience, you can move into more advanced positions like network administrator, network engineer or systems administrator. Some students choose to focus on growing areas such as cybersecurity, cloud computing or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technologies.
You can also build on this certificate by combining it with other programs at STLCC, such as an associate's degree in network security engineering or cybersecurity.
