Dual enrollment at STLCC gives high school students more than one way to earn college credit early. You can take college classes part time, focus on career or STEM courses, or spend your final semester fully immersed in college life.

No matter which option you choose, you’ll earn real college credit, build confidence and get a head start on your future — all while finishing high school.

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual enrollment is a chance for sophomores, juniors and seniors to take college classes taught by STLCC faculty, either online or on campus. You choose classes based on your interests and goals.

You must be ready for college-level work and get permission from your parent/guardian and a school administrator.

Types of Dual Enrollment Options

Traditional Dual Enrollment
Take classes on your own schedule and earn college credit. To begin dual enrollment, you have to demonstrate the ability to manage college courses. That’s why we look for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors with a 2.0 GPA or higher. To enroll, you will need written permission from a school administrator and a parent or guardian.

Early College
Spend your junior and senior years taking full-time college classes and work toward an associate degree while finishing high school. Each partner high school has its own application process. In addition to meeting your high school’s requirements, you must be a junior with a minimum 2.0 GPA at the start of the program. This ensures you have enough time to complete an associate degree by the time you graduate from high school.

Make It Count
If you’re a senior, spend your last semester taking college classes. This fully immersive experience allows students to graduate with both a high school diploma and 12 to 18 hours of college credit.

Career Pathways
Take career or STEM classes that count toward a degree and help prepare you for work or further study. Ameren STEM Academy is a grant-funded program open to students in North St. Louis County public high schools. Get a jump start on your STEM career by taking entry-level classes at STLCC-Florissant Valley.

How to Register for Dual Enrollment

1. Apply to STLCC: Create an account and submit an application.
2. Activate Your STLCC Account: After applying, you’ll get an email with your student ID number (known as your "A" number) and instructions to set up your MySTLCC ID and STLCC email.
3. Submit the Dual Enrollment Authorization Form: After submitting your form, your counselor will be asked to upload your transcript. Next, your counselor and parent/guardian will be asked to approve your enrollment.
4. Placement Testing (if needed): You may take placement tests, such as Accuplacer, if recommended based on your English or math readiness.
5. Register for Classes: Once approved, register for classes online or with help from an advisor if needed.
6. Attend Orientation: Go to a Dual Enrollment Orientation to learn how college works and get ready for your first semester.
7. Pay and Get Ready: Pay tuition and fees, order textbooks and get your student ID card.

Dual Enrollment and Scholarships

Cost

If you’re taking classes through dual enrollment, you only pay half the normal cost per credit hour. Rates below include a $7 activity fee, a $11 technology fee and a $5 service fee per credit hour:

In-district: $72.50
Out-of-district: $97
Out-of-state: $128
International: $133

STLCC Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment Scholarship

For students taking more than six credit hours.
Must show financial need.
Requires an online application.

High School Scholarships

Some schools pay the full cost of your dual enrollment classes. Check with your high school counselor.

State of Missouri Scholarship

Available to juniors and seniors who qualify based on financial need. Apply through the Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development.

Who Can Take Dual Enrollment?

Dual enrollment is open to students at high schools that partner with STLCC. You are eligible if you:

Are a sophomore, junior or senior.
Have at least a 2.0 unweighted GPA.

Classes include many general subjects such as English, math, history, science, social studies and world languages. Career and technical classes as well as electives like music, theater and art are also available.

Dual enrollment students must meet the same class requirements as all STLCC students. Talk with your high school counselor or a student success advisor to make sure the class fits your goals and meets the prerequisites you need.
