Start your automotive career with STLCC’s automotive vehicle inspection program. This hands-on auto safety inspection training teaches you how to inspect vehicles, perform light maintenance and meet Missouri safety inspection requirements.
You’ll practice real shop procedures, including fluid checks and basic steering, suspension and alignment inspections. When you complete the program, you’ll be ready to pursue an inspection license and apply for entry-level roles in vehicle service and inspection.
What is Automotive Vehicle Inspection at St. Louis Community College?
The automotive vehicle inspection program at STLCC teaches you how to check a vehicle from top to bottom to ensure it is safe and running properly. You’ll gain hands-on experience and build the skills needed to begin a career in vehicle inspection and light automotive service.
In this program, you’ll learn to:
- Properly lift and support a vehicle using drive-on and two-post lifts.
- Follow safe waste handling practices and maintain a clean, organized shop.
- Inspect automotive fluids and assess their condition.
- Examine suspension, chassis and brake components using Missouri safety inspection guidelines.
- Service tires and wheel assemblies, including tire repair or replacement, balancing and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) reprogramming.
- Remove and replace worn steering and suspension components.
- Perform professional vehicle safety inspections as a certified automotive inspector.
What Can You Do with an Automotive Vehicle Inspection Certificate?
With an automotive vehicle inspection certificate, you can pursue work as a certified vehicle inspector. This credential prepares you to inspect vehicles and verify their safety and compliance with Missouri requirements.
