Design Your Future with a Graphic Communications Degree
The associate in applied science (AAS) in graphic communications at St. Louis Community College lets you develop your skills in graphic design and visual communication. You’ll work with typography, print and digital layouts, web and interactive design, illustration and motion graphics.
You’ll complete creative projects for both classroom exercises and real-world clients, helping you practice problem-solving and build your portfolio. By the end of the program, you’ll be ready to start entry-level jobs in visual communication or continue your studies at a four-year university.
What is Graphic Communications at St. Louis Community College?
The graphic communications program teaches students how to combine design, illustration, typography and other elements to create materials that communicate effectively. Professionals in this field produce logos, brochures, advertisements, websites and multimedia content.
Students can follow one of two career paths:
- Graphic and interactive design - This track focuses on typography, layout, motion design and online media. Courses include Web Design I and II, Graphic Design III and IV, and Advanced Motion and Interactive Design.
- Illustration and animation - This track teaches students how to communicate ideas through freehand and digital drawings to create motion media designs. Courses include Editorial and Commercial Illustration, Drawing and Rendering for Graphics and Fundamentals of Animation.
What Can You Do with a Graphic Communications Associate Degree?
Completing the graphic communications AAS gives you the creative and design skills needed to start in the visual communication field. You’ll learn how to combine illustration, typography, digital layouts and interactive media to bring ideas to life.
