The Biomedical Electronics Technology Certificate of Proficiency provides students with skills necessary to enter the field of Biomedical Electronics service and support as Biomedical Electronics Technicians (BMET). Students will learn electrical and electronic concepts associated with medical electronics and devices, basic science behind instruments, and troubleshooting techniques. n individual who has been convicted of a felony may not be qualified for employment as a BMET in healthcare.

This program prepares you to sit for the BMET certification exam of the ICC for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology.

Depending on your skills and experience the STLCC curriculum can be customized:

  • Experienced students take one electrical/electronic bridge course to learn the electrical theory fundamental to biomedical equipment.
  • Students new to the electronics field take a series of three electrical/electronic courses.

At STLCC you’ll master an array of skills necessary for success in the field of biomedical electronics service and support, including:

  • Human anatomy
  • Concepts associated with medical electronics and devices
  • Basic science behind instruments
  • Troubleshooting techniques

Hands-on experience: All students benefit from workplace learning internships at area medical facilities.

As a BMET, you’ll test, adjust, calibrate or repair biomedical or electro-medical equipment such as patient monitors, defibrillators, electric wheelchairs and medical imaging equipment.

Stackable: Once you’ve earned a certificate of specialization in Biomedical Electronics Technology, your credits can apply towards your Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology AAS degree.
