The health information management (HIM) associate in applied science (AAS) program prepares students for a career in electronic health information management (e-HIM) and data or revenue management.
Through this program, you'll gain the technical skills and knowledge necessary to collect, analyze and distribute accurate and reliable health information. During your studies, you can also pursue a clinical coding certificate of proficiency to enhance your career prospects.
What is Health Information Management at St. Louis Community College?
Health information management professionals play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and accessibility of patient health information. They are responsible for organizing and maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records, managing health data for billing, research and compliance purposes, and implementing and managing health care information technology systems. They also ensure the security and privacy of patient health information.
As part of this program, you can choose from two specialized tracks: data management (DM), which teaches you to evaluate data sets for compliance, or revenue management (RM), which trains you to assess and optimize revenue cycle processes.

Earning an AAS in health information management can lead to roles such as medical records technician, health information technician or coding specialist. HIM professionals may practice in areas such as:

Accreditation
The health information management accreditor of St. Louis Community College is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The College’s accreditation for associate degree in health information management has been reaffirmed through 2022-2023.
