Teaching is one of the most rewarding professions. You will get the chance to take part in the education of future generations of children and to have a career in which you can make a significant difference in the lives of your students are two of the major reasons many people are drawn to this career. STLCC's associate of arts in teaching degree (AAT), provides students the opportunity to complete the first two years towards a bachelor's degree in education. The AAT degree can then transfer to one of Missouri's four-year teaching colleges or universities where students can complete the bachelor's degree in teaching. The courses in this program meet teacher certification requirements, are fully accredited by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and are fully transferable to many Missouri four-year colleges.
Required Courses
The recommended academic plan blends general education requirements with options for areas of concentration to ensure students get the most out of their certificate or degree.
The general education courses included in this program are included in Missouri's state-wide CORE 42 framework. This guarantees that the general education courses you complete are fully transferable to all public colleges and universities across the state. Parallel Programming
The Associate of Arts in Teaching degree curriculum consists of five core courses that are required of all teachers regardless of grade level or subject area they are planning to teach. Courses have been designed in collaboration with four-year colleges statewide so that their content parallels closely to what local universities offer their students in the first two years.

Hands on Experience
The program includes an emphasis on observation and participation in local school classrooms. The teaching profession with field experience course provides students with an opportunity to experience the day-to-day activities of veteran elementary, middle school and high school teachers.
Job Outlook
Overall employment of kindergarten and elementary school teachers is projected to grow seven percent from 2016 to 2026, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Rising student enrollment should increase demand for kindergarten and elementary teachers, but employment growth will vary by region.

Accreditation
The ATT program at STLCC is a fully accredited program by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
Teaching Practicum
The AAT program is designed to give students experience in the classroom in the form of observation. The program requires 18 hours of observation in an elementary and 18 hours in a middle or high school for a total of 36 hours.
Program Requirements
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 is required.
- Minimum professional education GPA is 2.75.
- Institutional passing scores of the Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA).
