St. Louis Community College celebrated the opening of two new buildings on its Meramec campus with a ribbon cutting held on Thursday, Aug. 28. This event completed the College’s new building phase as part of the STLCC Transformed initiative. The Emerging Technology Center and Financial Services Education Center will serve as a new “front door” for the Meramec campus.
“These buildings will be a massive upgrade to the student experience,” said Jeff L. Pittman, PhD, STLCC chancellor. “From the new welcome center and library to modern classrooms and spaces for students to study and relax, these buildings are going to make a tremendous difference.”
The Emerging Technology Center is a 78,000-square-foot building that is now home to the campus library and tutoring spaces, as well as graphic communications, coding and gaming, horticulture, and cannabis and hemp production classes. The building will also feature a green roof terrace, digital media lab and a maker space for students and community members to explore and grow new ideas. Adjacent to the center is a new, state-of-the-art greenhouse to be used by the horticulture program.
The Financial Services Education Center will have an entire floor dedicated to student enrollment needs, including recruitment and outreach, enrollment services, advising, and business services. The 65,00-square-foot building also serves as the new home for the campus testing center and a suite dedicated to students enrolled in STLCC’s dual credit/dual enrollment programs. The building will feature an entrepreneurial center, study rooms, and several technology-integrated classrooms and computer labs.
“We’re excited to give students a modern space to develop new skills and define their career paths,” said Feleccia Moore-Davis, PhD, campus president and chief academic officer at STLCC-Meramec. “This is going to be a big advancement for our students and the community at large.”
In addition to the Emerging Technology Center and Financial Services Education Center at STLCC-Meramec, the College opened the Transportation Education Center at the Forest Park campus, the Health Sciences and Technology Center at the Wildwood campus, as well as the Advanced Manufacturing Center and the Nursing and Health Sciences Center on the Florissant Valley campus earlier this year.
Meramec’s updates are not fully completed, as the Student Center is currently undergoing renovations to upgrade other student services, and new landscaping across many portions of the campus are planned to be completed in the coming months.
These new construction projects are supported by funds from Proposition R, an eight-cent tax levy approved by St. Louis City and County voters in 2021.
