Creativity Takes Center Stage

Theatre at St. Louis Community College brings creativity and expression to life. Since the early 1970s, our stages have presented everything from children's shows to experimental works. With a wide selection of classes, STLCC’s theatre program provides an immersive learning experience in acting, directing and technical production. Spread across three campuses in the St. Louis metro region, our venues showcase student performances, guest artists and special events throughout the year.

As part of STLCC's commitment to accessible arts education, all productions are free to attend, and auditions are open to the community. Find your place onstage, backstage or in the audience and discover what makes live theatre unforgettable.

THE BUTLER DID IT (AMATEUR PERFORMANCE RIGHTS) is presented by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Dramatists Play Service. www.concordtheatricals.com

Synopsis: The scene is the set where Anthony J. Lefcourt, writer and director, is rehearsing his new play, a “classic whodunit” (in which all the characters are named Butler) with which he hopes to regain the success that has eluded him in recent seasons. Desperately eager to stimulate his cast to their best efforts, he has deliberately withheld the final scene of the play from them, but his patience is worn thin by the petty jealousies and romantic rivalries that detract from their concentration. In an effort to spur them on he “stages” the murder of one of the actresses, after which the plot begins to twist and turn with such dazzling ingenuity — and hilarity — that soon actors and audience alike have lost track of what is real and what is make-believe — until a surprise ending sets matters straight in a most bizarre and ironic way.

Roles available:

  • Two males
  • Two females

Note for all actors: This is an ensemble cast with only two scenes that do not include everyone in the cast. I will do my best to accommodate varying schedules, but the more we can work together, the better the show will be. If you are cast, please block off the six weeks necessary for the show process to unfold.

Performances will take place:

  • Nov. 12 at 11:15 a.m.
  • Nov. 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.
